			The idea and motivation to create this webshop came from our students, and their repeated
			requests for information about time management throughout the semester. The
			<a href="http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca">Learning Commons</a> offers
			<a href="http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca/ByTopic/Learning/TimeManagement/SSWAT.html#WorkshopSchedule">
			programming on time management</a>, but only at the beginning of the semester. We provide
			<a href="http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca/ByTopic/Learning/TimeManagement/LearningConsultations.html">
			individual assistance</a> to Guelph students at no charge, but this usually requires booking and
			attending an appointment, a service that students who are pressured and stressed sometimes
			can't access. We've developed some pretty decent printed materials, like
			<a href="http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca/http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca/Publications.html#TimeManagementPublicationDescription">
			a book on time management</a> and the
			<a href="http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca/ByFormat/OnlineResources/Fastfacts/index.html">
			Fastfacts series on time management</a>, but these require costly printing.
		</para>
		<para>
			We also realized that, although the information provided by the Fastfacts and our book is
			useful, it's directed to first-year students, and so doesn't directly address the on-going
			struggles with time management faced by older and graduate students. As the Web grew and
			became more popular, we realized that it could furnish a means of providing extensive and
			easily-revisable information, as well as a vehicle by which students could communicate with
			each other about time management, sharing both their problems and experiences. A web-based
			workshop like Learning Time gives us a medium to provide information and advice to
			students <emph>when</emph> and <emph>where</emph> they need it.

				Hi! I'm Maryann Kope. I'm the primary content author for this webshop and the project
				co-ordinator. The development of web resources is one of my main responsibilities as the
				Co-ordinator of Learning Services here in the <a href="http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca">
				Learning Commons</a>. I've been involved in a number of web-related projects here at Guelph
				including the <a href="http://www.slcs.uoguelph.ca/keyword/">Keyword Directory</a>
				(which I worked on with <a href="#Venk">Venk</a>) and many of the first home pages for other
				units in the department formerly known as <a href="http://www.slcs.uoguelph.ca/home/">
				Counselling and Student Resource Centre</a> when I was its first webmaster. I've had a
				long-standing interest in time management and procrastination, as well as learning from
				computers, so creating this webshop was a wonderfully challenging opportunity to combine
				these two interests into one initiative.

				One of the best parts of the project was working with one very talented student assistant,
				whom you'll meet <a href="#Venk">below</a>. This webshop could not have come together
				without his commitment, talent and creativity. We are grateful to Guelph's Student
				Life Enhancement Fund, which gave us a grant that made this project possible.
			</para>
			<para>
				We always depend on student feedback to improve our services, but since this is the
				pilot of this webshop, your comments are essential - whether they're compliments or
				complaints. There are lots of chances to provide <a href="feedback.xml">feedback</a>
				throughout Learning Time, or if you're a Guelph student, I invite you to
				<a href="mailto:mkope@uoguelph.ca">e-mail me</a> directly, introduce yourself and tell me
				about your experience with Learning Time. Thanks for visiting!

				Hi - I'm Venk Chandran, and when I worked on Learning Time I was in 4th year Psychology
				at the University of Guelph. When I'm not nerding out on web design, I can be found
				runnin’ around trying to be a writer and Bollywood actor. I have an avid interest in
				media theory and am a regular technology columnist for various online and print media.
				I also enjoy pushing Maryann to the brink of insanity with vague computer acronyms. When
				not designing websites I'm consulting, when not consulting I'm cooking, when not cooking
				I'm eating. I also like long walks on the beach and breakfast in bed and wearing dapper
    			headgear.
